Equity Capabilities

The Equity team in Dublin are active investors, they employ a research-intensive process in the construction of portfolios. We believe that portfolios must be constructed within an appropriate control environment and with particular attention paid to risk. The construction of our portfolios is based on:

  • A coherent medium term economic and market outlook
  • Investing in good companies with good prospects
  • The belief that value added is derived from both stock and sector selection
  • The pro-active use of risk management in ensuring that the risks taken are commensurate with the portfolio performance objectives.

As active fund managers our aim is to constantly seek to outperform benchmarks. We concentrate on macro economics / industries in the decision as to our preferred markets. When our economic or sectoral analysis identifies a segment of the market as offering a favourable outlook we then focus our research efforts on identifying those companies most likely to benefit from these themes.

Stock and Sector Selection

As part of the fundamental analysis of companies a thorough understanding of industry fundamentals across the market is essential. Continuous analysis of industry trends and input from external analysts help identify industry fundamentals and trends. Regular meetings with sector specialists take place. Favoured stocks are identified through the above top down factors but also from the assessment of a company’s prospects based on various metrics, for example, earnings expectations, the driver’s of these earnings, earnings growth, cyclicality or defensiveness of earnings, director activity. The assessment of these factors is a continuous process and stock selection is considered on an ongoing basis.
